We win Guardian's 'best' Student Experience

We are thrilled to announce that the University has won the Student Experience Award at the inaugural Guardian University Awards.

Presenting the award last night, BBC education correspondent Reeta Chakrabarti said MMU’s project to improve the academic experience, called EQAL, had been “ambitious in its pace and scale” and was “quite exceptional”.

Students win Royal Television Society North West award

Students from the Contemporary Film and Video course at Manchester Metropolitan University have won a prestigious Royal Television Society North West award.

Three undergraduate students studying Contemporary Film and Video at MMU topped the factual category at the RTS North West Awards on February 25, with their film ‘A Browner Shade of Pale’.

The ceremony, held at Media City, is the biggest outside of London and it is the second year running that students from the University have won an award.

Graduate scoops national art prize

Manchester School of Art graduate Bartosz Beda is celebrating after winning the northern section of the National Open Art Competition.

Bartosz, who graduated with a Masters in Fine Art this summer, beat off competition from hundreds of entries to win the £1,000 prize with a portrait of the Indian leader Ghandi painted from memory.

He said that winning the prize was both “exhausting and exciting”. To read more click here.

New network to encourage digital brilliance

A NEW business network to promote digital innovation across Manchester has been launched by MMU.

The Digital Innovation network brings together researchers and innovators at the University as well as businesses from across the city to work towards greater knowledge and success.

They are hoping that encouraging collaborations will create more innovations such as the award winning Manchester Time Machine, an iPhone app which combined GPS and archive film footage to create an interactive tour of the city, and which involved experts in film, computing and design.

MMU graduate has grand designs for Bond film

When you watch James Bond in his latest adventure, Skyfall, take a minute to notice the props – many of them were created by MMU graduate Laura Johnson.

However the 26 year-old is under oath not to reveal any details ahead of the film’s release on November 9th.

“I can’t say anything about it – I’m absolutely sworn to secrecy,” she said.

From her base at Pinewood Studios, Laura, who graduated from the School of Art in 2009, is part of the huge team who will create everything from Bond’s car to his cufflinks.

Sarah Storey's world record warmly welcomed

MMU-sponsored athlete Sarah Storey bagged TeamGB's first gold medal and broke another world record today as the Paralympic Games began with plenty of university involvement.

After the thrill of staff coaching involvement in the Olympic Games, the excitement continues as four academics step into the limelight at the Paralympics.

Exercise and Sport Science at MMU Cheshire is supporting the Paralympic GB swimming teams and Paralympic GB Football team (men) in their quest for medalsin London.

Cyclist Sarah Storey’s world record in the 3km pursuit will be warmly welcomed by the ESS team who frequently host the Paralympian veteran at their £10 million Sport Science Centre at the Crewe Campus.

MMU has launched Agency Life, a Level 5 2nd Year unit for students studying in the Department of Marketing, Operations and Digital Business at MMU Business School.

This unit is designed to introduce undergraduates to the experience of working in a busy advertising, marketing, PR or digital agency, or a busy advertising, marketing, PR or digital department within a large organisation as part of a structured programme of learning.

Students will spend 2 terms working with a real organisation and be exposed to the real everyday experiences of operating in a busy environment. They will be assessed on their professionalism as practitioners as well as on the things they produce in the workplace.

Creative England is delivering a project which will develop and test a range of business support services that are directly relevant to the creative sector, and we want to know what you really want.

We are holding a free consultation session in Manchester on 12 July which will assess and benchmark specific business needs and develop a wish list of support services.

Following the consultation period participating businesses will have the opportunity to trial these services for free early next year.

Fashion students win at graduate fashion week

MMU FASHION students are celebrating after a hugely successful Graduate Fashion Week.

Jousianne Propp scooped not one but two prestigious national fashion prizes, the Karen Millen Portfolio Award and the Stuart Peters Visionary Knitwear Award.

And Roz Lamkin, who had already had her collection shown on ITV’s This Morning, was a finalist for the Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textiles Award at the star-studded showcase of graduate design talent in London’s Earls Court this week (June 10 – 13).

Win a £16,000 tuition fee scholarship to join the Executive MBA programme at Manchester Metropolitan University

The Business School at Manchester Metropolitan University is offering managers and professionals the opportunity to receive a tuition fee scholarship worth £16,000 to attend its part-time AMBA-accredited Executive MBA (EMBA) programme from October 2012. Two runners up will receive a £4,000 scholarship each, and all candidates who complete the Executive MBA Challenge will be eligible for a £2,000 scholarship.
